So I cleaned a wood floor tonight. It did not come out good at all. It's a house being listed for sale in Palos Verdes, Ca. The wood floor really needed to be refinished but they're selling it and don't want to spend money on it. I was hired to do the T&G in the kitchen, and bathrooms, as well as kitchen counter top.

So I busted out my 175, maroon pad, and my Bridgepoint Hydro Force cleaner. The wood floor had swirl marks from the cleaner I guess. I wasn't worried as I was going to follow up with a mop. I mopped it two times and the swirl marks kept coming back. Now I started to get concerned. I then followed up with a soft white bonnet and more cleaner. Swirl marks are still there:confused:

It was 9 pm so I just followed up with the semi gloss finish. Was dark but I thought I saw the swirl marks coming back as it was drying.

Now I've used this stuff on my mom's wood floor a while back and didn't have this problem. So what is it? How do you get rid of it?
Also, I may need a cheapo hack trick to get this floor to shine a little. They are selling the house, don't care if I do a hack move on the wood floor. Can I put some kind of wax to shine it up? The realtor who referred me is having a big open house in a day or so. i have no more time to mess with this and I am booked solid. Any help or advice will be appreciated. Thanks!

did you check for wax on the floor. I mean not finish but real wax on the floor. In the old days and still this days some people used wax on the floors as if they were waxing a car.

I can move my jobs tomorrow and come see it with you. we may need to rent a square machine screen oit or lightly sand it and mikey mouse it if the realtor is fine with that. Call me we can make it work. I hope

It is one of your silly jokes isn't it? that residue looks like something you can remove with a rag by hand

My first thought is same as Martin, maybe a wax finish you have disturbed.

Find a spot and try different things. Solvents, wax or finishes just whatever until you see one make it go away.

No joke Martin. This wax is going to drive me nuts. I'm going back in the afternoon like 4pm or so. Going to load up on all kinds of stuff to attack this wax crap.

Well.... Now that we know you are serious, can you just buff it with a MF pad or a cotton/terry pad to buff to a shine?

Perhaps the white marks are only scuff marks from the red pad. Hopefully that's all. The HF cleaner isn't acidic is it?

Did you get a call for a carpet stretching job today? I told him to call you. He wants his carpets cleaned as well.

Wood floors are a different beast. When I go on calls, my biggest piece of advice to people is NEVER hire someone to do a wood floor unless they do it EVERY day. There are so many variables that can pop up, thus why I recommend leaving it to the guys who do it day in and day out.

I was there today. I'm out of it. They hired me to clean it. That is sort of what I did, Essentially they want it sanded down and refinished and that is what I'm not going to do. I gave the owner a couple of options which they didn't want to utilize, So I washed my hands of the situation. Thanks @Martin for all the advice and help buddy.

The swirl marks were because when I was cleaning it I let it dry. Apparently your supposed to mop it up before it dries.
